                                              Dialogue in the Dark

" Your senses will never be the same "

If you are blind, you will change your viewpoint, your idea and your attitude toward the blind people or not? How? and what do you would like to learn from this experience? Yeah, I'm talking about "Dialogue in the Dark" Exhibition (DID) where would give you the real and worth answers.

This exhibition comes from Germany by Andreas Heinecke, the founder. When he was a journalist, he has worked with blind people. He felt it was difficult to live with them but he found that the blinds could do the same things as normal people and they often were separated from normal people. Also, someone have pity and fear of talking to them. He thought that these things happened because of ignorance and misunderstanding, so he decided to change his job. Now, he works about development and equipment to help and make better lives for blind people.

Dialogue in the Dark Exhibition is located on the 4th floor of Chamchuri Square Building and presented by National Science Musuem (NSM). It is a lesson in the dark. WHY is it called the lesson? Because this is a great opportunity for normal people to learn and understand being in the dark by using your other senses. If we can't see anything, how are we?, how do we feel?, how do we help ourselves? and what can we do in the dark?

This exhibition presents the same all over the world. All exhibition rooms are decorated with dark atmosphere simulation. Among the dark that we don't know where we are and where things are located, there is a blind guide who lead us in small group(8 people) into everyday life of blind person about 1 hour. Although, it is just an hour for learning, it is absolutely worthwhile. They will describe the appearance and atmosphere inside each exhibition room, so that we can reach and get everything through sensory perception such as sound, temperature, touch, taste, smell and so on. The exhibition is divided into seven different rooms and each room is equipped with the following objectives:

1. Introduction Room: To give you the brief information about this exhibition.
2. Living Room: To adjust to the dark and make interaction between blind guides and visitors with a sense of trust and friendliness.
3. Park: Open your sense, get ready and stimulate your awareness to get exciting experiences.
4. Market: Stimulate your sense, recognize and remember for making the same experiences as the blinds.
5. Transport: Simulate adventures by traveling in different ways.
6. Music Room: To get more experiences about recognition and enjoyment of your senses in all body parts.
7. Bar: To create dialogues that will be a summary of understanding between the blind and normal people

Policies that you need to know about DID
     - No photography
     - Do not bring gasoline, gas torches and lighter fluid

I hope you all will get new perspectives, more understanding and sympathetic to others, not only to the blinds but to all different people too.

"The only way to learn is through encounter"
